The Istituto CNR of Verbania and Walter Zerla, together with Fantini Rubinetteria, have signed a protocol of agreement for the first European experiment in the constant monitoring of the waters of Lago Maggiore in 2014 and Lago d’Orta in 2015. The project is called S.A.I.L.I.N.G., Sensor-based Assessment on In Lake processes and water quality - Scientific INvestigation and Growing environmental awareness. Its financing of this project is concrete evidence of the company’s commitment to the environment for the safeguarding of its territory.
“We decided to support this project for many reasons” says Daniela Fantini, Managing Director of company that bears her name. “My family and my company have always been closely linked to the life of Lake Orta. I have been aware of how this lake has changed from the condition of being unsuitable for bathing, due to the extreme acidity of its waters, to an improvement in its chemical-physical conditions and the gradual reappearance of various forms of life, thanks also to a liming operation that has speeded up the recovery, returning the lake to the territory in all its beauty and enjoyability. The Fantini company is based in Pella, on the banks of the lake. We already abolished chrome-plating many years ago to contribute to the improvement of the waters of the lake. We are also involved in another project on the subject of water: in Burundi, with the construction of an aqueduct to bring water to those without it; with this project we return to our territory, which is so dear to us: it is a gesture of affection and care for our land and our roots! Monitoring the condition of the lake and making it known helps create more awareness among people and an understanding of the need to safeguard water as a precious asset.” Starting off last November with Walter Zerla’s desire to create a photographic volume that - by eliminating national boundaries and natural barriers - might offer tourists a unique view from the lake towards the land, now the project places itself at the service of scientific research.
